Babi Yar was the largest alleged massacre done by Germans to Jewish people. Today I will begin addressing the series that Holocaust Denial on Trial, or HDoT, has on Babi Yar starting with the introduction.
Here we have details of the alleged massacre which are all based on witness testimony. The death toll was taken from what were said to be the German’s own records. The records referred to are called the Einsatzgruppen Reports and I have covered their legitimacy, or lack thereof, in this article. HDoT also claims that more people were murdered at Babi Yar during Nazi occupation. It is unknown how many were ultimately killed but it could have been as many as 100,000. But they’re not sure so maybe it could have been zero?
To explain for the lack of bodies the orthodox Holocaust historians claim that the Germans had the bodies dug up and burned on outdoor pyres. This story is similar to the ones at Treblinka, Belzec and Sobibor. Which brings up the same questions about where did the fuel come from and what happened to the wood and body ash? Since the alleged executions were done by bullets there is the further question of where are the thousands of bullet casings?
In 1961 a nearby dam broke, flooding the Babi Yar ravine and destroying all the alleged evidence of the alleged murders. However 1961 was nearly 20 years after the war. Considering that Babi Yar was the alleged crime scene of tens of thousands of murders they must have done a thorough investigation well before that. There was an investigation, right?
Not only was there no investigation the Russians turned the site into a garbage dump. (UPDATE: There was one investigation done by Soviets, see Babi Yar and Physical Evidence, for more information).
So here we have an alleged crime with a crime scene that was never thoroughly investigated. Thus, like most of the Holocaust story, the historians rely on eyewitness testimony.
